There are only two others in my immediate family, my wonderful husband David, who supports me in anything I try. He has patience without end in dealing with me as I know I can be trying. As of August 25, 2009, we will have been married 25 years.
My only Daughter Alysha, (now insisting that her name be Rose - her middle name)was born August 26, 1986.
I am so proud of her. Inspite of her deafness, she is doing amazing in school. She is very fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and can read lips and body language. She is an honor student and scooped 7 awards in school in Grade 10. Tops in Horiculture, Technical Art, Creative Art. Runner up in Social Studies, Science, and an honorable mention in Math.
She also received the Grade 10 Citizenship award, and to top it all of She is Grade 10 Student of the year.
Can any mother be more proud.
It is a year later and I needed to up date the above. "Rose" scooped 7 more awards. Tops in Science, Social Studies, Badminton, Creative Art, Technical Art, Citizenship, and Grade 11 Academic Student of the Year.
I am at the heights of dizziness.
Well as you can tell, Her Grade X11, Graduating year she outdid herself. She took top awards in every subject. She graduated at the top of her class and missed out on being validictorian because of her deafness. She did not want to speak to the assembly in sign language. However she took the top honors of the whole High School by winning the Govenor General's Bronze Medal for highest Grade Point Average in the school. She had 91.3 GPA.
Her Grandma and Grandad on Dave's side of the family and my Dad was there to see her win these awards. Everyone was so very Proud.
She won a scholarship to Art School but wanted to work a bit first to raise money for college. This is where things stand at the moment.
